1 Poem by Seann F. Weir
How to Nurture a Bruise
Your body is a matchstick in a blackout
warns my doting despot.
I get pummeled
when I forget to call her daddy.
She says brave bitch boy
trust is complicated.
I strive to be demure, I balance
a penny on my nose and attempt a pirouette.
When debased and ignored I count
how many houseplants have died on my watch.
I confess labor does not agree with me
as honey pours from her mouth.
I capsize and listen to my welts hum.
Morning secretes and we
watch drones patrol heaven
subject to the prayer of their algorithm.
She hogties me and explains
that an honest interrogation begins
with an affirmation of helplessness.
In another season our heartland will wake
to the sound of cicadas building cities.
Survival demands fantasy
like slurping champagne
from a dog bowl
while your sweetheart donned in balaclava
leads a vanguard to burn every bank.
Cruel sports in the bedroom
is as close to heaven as I get.
Your body is a matchstick in a blackout
warns my doting despot.
I get pummeled
when I forget to call her daddy.
She says brave bitch boy
trust is complicated.
I strive to be demure, I balance
a penny on my nose and attempt a pirouette.
When debased and ignored I count
how many houseplants have died on my watch.
I confess labor does not agree with me
as honey pours from her mouth.
I capsize and listen to my welts hum.
Morning secretes and we
watch drones patrol heaven
subject to the prayer of their algorithm.
She hogties me and explains
that an honest interrogation begins
with an affirmation of helplessness.
In another season our heartland will wake
to the sound of cicadas building cities.
Survival demands fantasy
like slurping champagne
from a dog bowl
while your sweetheart donned in balaclava
leads a vanguard to burn every bank.
Cruel sports in the bedroom
is as close to heaven as I get.
